ABUJA, Nigeria — The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has confirmed that it held a meeting with Comfort Emmanson, the Ibom Air passenger whose clash with airline crew went viral earlier this month.
Michael Achimugu, the NCAA’s director of public affairs and consumer protection, disclosed the development on Thursday, August 21, 2025, via his official X handle.
He said Emmanson attended the session in Abuja alongside her lawyer but did not provide further details about what was discussed.

Achimugu explained that the meeting was part of the agency’s wider investigation into the August 10 incident, which also involved discussions with members of the airline’s crew the previous day.
He noted that multiple directorates—including aviation security, operations, licensing and training standards, legal, and consumer protection—were jointly working to ensure the probe is concluded properly.
The altercation, captured in widely circulated videos, showed Emmanson physically assaulting a flight attendant on an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos and later confronting security officials at the airport.
She was arrested, arraigned in Lagos, and briefly remanded in prison before being released when charges were dropped.
Although many Nigerians criticised Emmanson for her aggressive conduct, others faulted the airline after footage appeared to show one of its flight attendants blocking the passenger from disembarking.
The incident has since sparked broader debate about passenger behaviour, airline staff conduct, and enforcement of aviation safety protocols.
The NCAA’s ongoing investigation is expected to establish responsibility and recommend measures to prevent similar confrontations in the future.
