The Super Eagles of Nigeria failed to reach the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after losing on penalties to hosts Morocco in a semi-final on Wednesday night.
It was a disappointing night for Nigeria, who had held up for 120 minutes against a superfast Moroccan side, bent on reaching the final on home ground.
After a goalless draw, the game was forced to penalty shootouts, with Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno Onyemaechi missed their kicks as Morocco won 4-2.
The home side had reigning African Player of the Year, Achraf Hakimi was in play all through the game and also converted his spot kick.

Leading goalscorer Brahim Diaz was also on the field, joining his teammates to cause Nigeria a lot of troubles on the flank and in the box.
The Super Eagles forwards, including Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams, were largely silent for the most part of the game.
The Eric Chelle men, who had won all their games from the start of the tournament until tonight, will now battle the Pharaohs of Egypt in the third place match.
Meanwhile, the Atlas Lions of Morocco will now face the Teranga Lions of Senegal in the final of the tournament billed for Sunday in Rabat.
