The Secretary and member of the Patriot, Akin Fapohunda, has suggested that Nigeria is not one nation.
Fapohunda stated that trying to make us one was never going to work, insisting that we are multiple nations under one country and that there needs to be differentiation.
He also criticized the current presidential system of government being practised in the country, saying there’s no accountability in the system.
Fapohunda said this on Monday while fielding questions on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme.
He said: “All we have been doing since 1999 we are just pretending that we are united, strong and rich. We are no longer rich, we are poor.
“The crude that we are selling now is to pay for the loan that have been taken. So we don’t even have money again. We are borrowing money.
“So we are praying that we are rich where we are poor. We are praying that we are united where we are not united. Katsina State is already paying allegiance to some bandits, who are not even Nigeria. So many things are wrong because we have been doing the same thing over and over for 25 years.
“In the parliamentary system, I cannot bring my friends and make them minister. No. All my ministers must come from the parliament. We are all elected together.
“Now president can appoint 48 ministers from anywhere. That’s a current system.
“But parliament system you are in parliament. The prime minister is in parliament every week. He is a bonafide member.
“The difference it will make is that there’s accountability, which is implicit that you can be questioned. But this presidential system, the commander of the armed forces, everything, you just put yourself in the villa and you don’t come out. You travel, you don’t hand over to anybody.”
