The Federal Government has officially launched the application portal for the Student Venture Capital Grant (SVCG), a flagship national program designed to support student-led innovation with equity-free grants of up to ₦50 million.
The Director of Press and Public Relations in the Federal Ministry of Education, Boriowo Folasade, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.
In his remark at the forum, the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, described the initiative as a cornerstone of the government’s innovation agenda.
He said:“The President has challenged us to look for the next Moonshot within our tertiary institutions. We are not just looking for projects; we are scouting for future Nigerian Unicorns whose roots will be planted right here in our universities and colleges. This is an equity-free seed investment in Nigeria’s future.”
According to the ministry, the grant is aimed at students developing solutions in STEMM disciplines: Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medical Sciences.
The programme is intended to ignite and sustain student-driven innovation, funding ventures that tackle real-world problems with strong potential for scalability and commercialization.
Successful applicants will gain access to a comprehensive support system, including incubation, mentorship, and advanced tools.
To strengthen the evaluation process, the ministry announced a partnership with Google, which will integrate Gemini AI into the application portal.
Every applicant will receive a complimentary one-year Gemini Pro license, along with premium learning resources, ensuring that Nigerian students embark on their entrepreneurial journey with globally competitive tools.
