Nigerians React As EFCC Releases Former Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released former Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, on administrative bail after questioning him over allegations of financial misconduct.

KanyiDaily recalls that Aminu Tambuwal was detained for unlawfully withdrawing about N189 billion during his tenure as governor.

He arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja at about 11:16 a.m. on Monday in response to an invitation but was taken into custody after reportedly failing to satisfactorily answer investigators’ questions.

A senior EFCC official, who requested anonymity, said the former governor was granted bail after providing the necessary information to the commission.

“ He has already been granted administrative bail. We’ve extracted what we need from him, and he will soon leave our headquarters after perfecting his bail conditions ,” the source said.

When asked if Tambuwal would be charged or arraigned in court, the EFCC official declined to give further details.

EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, also confirmed the release saying: “ Yes! Yes!! He has been released after perfecting his bail condition.”

The development has sparked mixed reactions across the country, with some Nigerians calling for a swift trial to ensure accountability, while others view the EFCC’s action as a political move.

Critics have urged the EFCC to be transparent and ensure the investigation does not fade away like past high-profile cases, while Tambuwal’s supporters insist he is being targeted for political reasons.

The love that has been shown to Sen Tambuwal is encouraging. The EFCC should be ashamed of themselves. Going after opposition leaders. Because they are scared of the ADC.

“they say those who are familiar with rigging, you can only rig where you are strong. So all those people who attempted to rig me out. Maybe they were not strong enough to rig me out, me i take it as a favor from God Almighty.”

Tambuwal – Hero of the Moment

Hero of the convention, hero of democracy,
Barred from the Assembly, he carved his own entry.
In 2014, as Number Four, they stripped his guards away,
Now they do the same for standing with the coalition, against Tinubu’s incompetent administration.… pic.twitter.com/cyRCcILGJc
