Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, has landed back in Abuja after clinching their record-breaking fifth consecutive AfroBasket title.
The team touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Monday, greeted by sports officials, fans, and members of the media.
This historic win marks a proud moment for the nation, solidifying D’Tigress’s dominance in African women’s basketball.
A Hero’s Welcome
The team received a warm reception upon arrival, with cultural dancers, drummers, and basketball fans celebrating their achievement.
Representatives from the National Sports Commission, Association of Nigerian Women in Sports, and the Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy were also present to welcome the team.
The players and officials arrived on two chartered flights, proudly holding the championship trophy.

D’Tigress’s victory in the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship is a testament to their exceptional teamwork, skill, and determination.
By winning their fifth consecutive title, Nigeria has become the first team in Africa to achieve this feat, showcasing the country’s growing basketball talent and dedication to the sport.
The team’s win also secures their spot in the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup qualifying tournaments.

The team will be received by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, where they will be commended for their outstanding achievement. The President had earlier congratulated the team in a statement, praising their dedication, teamwork, and consistency on the continental stage.
The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, also applauded the team’s dedication and commitment, describing their win as a “golden chapter in our nation’s sporting history”
