Akinloye Tofowomo, popularly known as Akiin Shuga, has passed away in New Brunswick, Canada, aged 50. His family confirmed the development and appealed for privacy as they make funeral arrangements in a statement on Instagram.

Akiin Shuga was the founder and band lead of the Shuga Band, a staple in the Nigerian live music scene and one of the most booked performance bands for high profile events, weddings and corporate ceremonies. His career spanned decades and he became widely respected for raising the standards of live band culture in Nigeria.

Beyond music, he was also known for his advocacy. After surviving polio at a young age, he established the Shuga Limb Foundation, a nonprofit that supports people with physical disabilities and drives conversations around disability awareness and empowerment.

Fans, fellow musicians, and industry colleagues have taken to social media to mourn Akiin Shuga’s passing and offer condolences to his family. Many remembered him not only as a talented musician but also as an advocate who used his platform to make a difference.
