LAGOS – The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (Nimet) and the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) are partnering on integrating the former’s real-time meteorological data into the LASWA’s operational framework to enhance waterway safety, optimise ferry scheduling and support smarter, weather-informed transport planning across Lagos.
A statement by the Public Affairs Department of Nimet on Tuesday, said that both parties reached the agreement when Prof. Charles Anosike, the Director-General of the agency in Abuja on Monday, received a delegation from LASWA, led by led by Mr. Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, General Manager of the authority.
The statement hinted that both parties also considered signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise and strengthen the partnership.
According to Nimet, the proposed collaboration aimed to improve ferry routing, minimise weather-related disruptions, and enhance emergency response capabilities.
The statement added: “Additionally, both agencies emphasised the importance of operator training and public awareness as critical components for achieving safer and more efficient water transport services in Lagos.”
