NNPP Rejects Tsanyawa/Ghari Election, Describes Result as Unacceptable

August 17, (THEWILL) — The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has rejected the result of the Tsanyawa/Ghari State Constituency election, describing it as unacceptable.

In a statement signed by its chairman, Hashimu Suleiman Dungurawa, the party alleged that the process was manipulated by some politicians in connivance with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“This is unacceptable and completely denies the electorate their rights to vote, after they came out massively and cast their votes largely for the NNPP candidate,” the statement read in part.

The party faulted INEC for announcing the result at its headquarters in Kano instead of the collation centre within the constituency, claiming the decision gave room for the alleged manipulation.

According to the NNPP, the development led to the cancellation of votes from the ten polling units where the re-run was held, reverting to earlier results that had already been nullified by the court in favour of the NNPP.

The party vowed to continue resisting what it described as “injustice, favouritism and election manipulation,” insisting that only presiding officers at polling units had the authority to cancel results, not INEC headquarters.

It cited the recently conducted Shanono/Bagwai bye-elections as an example of credible polls, noting that results were declared at the collation centres without interference.

While commending the security agencies for providing a peaceful environment during the exercise, the NNPP appreciated its supporters in the constituency for turning out in large numbers to back its candidate.
