New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State has strongly condemned the results of the Tsanyawa/Ghari state constituency re-run election overseen by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alleging foul play, while commending the smooth execution of the Shanono/Bagwai by-election.
During a press conference on Sunday in Kano, Hashimu Dungurawa, the state chairman of the NNPP, expressed dismay over what he termed “electoral manipulation and voter suppression” in the Tsanyawa/Ghari re-run.
“The election process was peaceful across the 10 affected polling units, yet INEC inexplicably canceled the results and reverted to the prior election outcome, which had already been nullified by the Court of Appeal,” Dungurawa stated.
He further criticized INEC’s decision to announce the results at its state headquarters rather than the constituency collation center, claiming it opened the door to irregularities.
“This deviation from standard procedure facilitated the manipulation that led to the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate being declared the winner,” he alleged.
Dungurawa emphasized that only presiding officers at polling units have the legal authority to cancel elections, calling the situation “a blatant injustice and a violation of the people’s will.”
Despite the controversy, Dungurawa praised the conduct of the Shanono/Bagwai by-election, crediting INEC and security agencies for ensuring a transparent process that “truly reflected the voters’ choice.”
He expressed gratitude to NNPP supporters and stakeholders for their robust turnout in both elections.
“We salute our people’s resilience in standing firm to support NNPP candidates,” he said, vowing that the party would “relentlessly defend democracy and the mandate of Kano’s electorate.”
