Number 21-ranked Texas Tech has been on a tear these past two weeks to start the season. Averaging 604 yards of offense per game, ranking 3rd nationally, and scoring 64.5 points per game, putting them 2nd in the nation, just below the USC Trojans.
Texas Tech QB Behren Morton has looked phenomenal in his first two starts, with 7 touchdowns and averaging 229.5 passing yards per game. In the running game, they have 3 rushers with over 100 yards, with RB Adam Hill leading the pack.
On the defensive side of the ball, transfers Romello Height and David Bailey have made an instant impact on the line, with each of them having 1.5 sacks leading the team. The Red Raiders are ranked in the top 10 in total defense. The last time that happened was in 1999.
The teams Texas Tech has played have been less than subpar, but that still doesn’t take credit away from the job new coordinators OC Mack Leftwich and DC Shiel Woods have done. They have shown poise in their play calling, and you can see the direction HC Joey McGuire wants to take this team.
Heading into the week 3 matchup, Oregon State is 0-2 with losses to Cal-Berkley and Fresno State. The Beavers are 106th in scoring offense. The starting QB, Maalik Murphy, who previously played at Duke and Texas, has struggled in his first two games, throwing three interceptions. Their defense is ranked 120th in the nation in points allowed per game.
Texas Tech is looking to start 3-0 for the first time since 2017, when Kliff Kingsbury was still head coach.
