Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has debunked a viral video circulating on social media, particularly Facebook, showing a train coach on fire.

In a statement on Sunday, NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Mr. Callistus Unyimadu, clarified that the incident occurred over three years ago along the Warri-Itakpe rail corridor.

“The video is outdated and does not represent the present condition of our operations or the safety of any of our train services”, he said

Unyimadu urged the public to stop sharing misleading or outdated videos, which create unnecessary panic and spread false information. He emphasized the importance of verifying information through official channels before sharing.

The NRC remains committed to passenger safety, comfort, and consistent improvements in its service delivery. Unyimadu assured that the corporation continually works to upgrade its operations to meet global safety standards and align with international best practices.

“We thank the public for their support and encourage everyone to confirm information from official NRC channels before sharing”, he said.

The NRC appeals for responsible social media usage and urges the public to rely on verified information to avoid spreading misinformation .
