NSCDC officers
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, has arrested six suspects for allegedly vandalising and stealing electricity equipment in the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Ibrahim Idris-Abdullahi, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday in Kano.
He said the suspects were apprehended at Hayin Da’e, Hotoro, in the Tarauni Local Government Area, following credible intelligence provided by local vigilante groups.
According to him, the suspects were caught with vandalised transformer cables believed to have been removed at midnight from a transformer in the Hayin Da’e community.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects had been terrorising residents of Hayin Da’e, Farawa Kwanar Yashi, and Hotoro Eastern Bypass through burglary, theft, and vandalism of electricity installations.
“The corps has launched an investigation with a view to making further arrests, while suspects have already confessed to committing the crime. The suspects will be charged in court upon conclusion of the investigation,” Idris-Abdullahi stated.
He assured that the command, under the leadership of Commandant Shafi’u Abdulmumini, would intensify surveillance and patrols to rid Kano of vandals and other criminal elements threatening public safety.
