The Commandant General (CG) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has launched a Special Intelligence Squad operation to track down the perpetrators of the recent attack on NSCDC operatives in Okpella, Edo State. The operation aims to rescue the kidnapped Chinese expatriate and bring the culprits to justice, according to a press statement from CSC Afolabi Babawale, Public Relations Officer, NSCDC Headquarters, Abuja on Tuesday.

On Friday, September 5, 2025, NSCDC operatives were ambushed by suspected kidnappers while escorting Chinese expatriates at the BUA Cement Company in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State. The attackers opened fire, sparking a three-hour gun duel that resulted in the deaths of eight NSCDC operatives. Four expatriates were rescued, but one was abducted by the gunmen.

Professor Audi has directed the deployment of a joint security operation, including the Special Intelligence Squad, Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT), and Special Protection Units, to comb the forest and rescue the abducted expatriate. The operation is headed by the Commandant of the CG’s Special Intelligence Squad, CC Dandaura Appollos Jp.

The NSCDC boss has assured that the security of the BUA Company environment has been upscaled to ensure adequate protection of all indigenous workers, expatriates, and critical assets and infrastructure. “The Corps will not succumb to any form of threats or be deterred by the activities of subversive elements and evil perpetrators who carried out the heinous attack,” he said.

The NSCDC has appealed to the public to provide any useful information that will assist in tracking down the perpetrators. The commandant general has also assured that the Corps will continue to engage the community in civil relations as a non-kinetic approach to tackling security challenges in the area.
