The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) is undergoing a significant transformation, with its Commandant-General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, declaring that the organisation has moved beyond its old operational identity. This transformation is deliberate, visible, and irreversible, according to Prof. Audi, who made the statement during an inspection of the Obstacle Course Training Centre at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command.
Prof. Audi emphasized that the pace of infrastructural development, operational readiness, and innovation observed at the FCT command reflects the type of leadership and institutional mindset required to reposition the Corps to meet evolving security challenges. He commended the FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, for his innovative approach, stating that the command has become a hub for innovation.
The NSCDC boss also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for approving long-overdue promotions, describing the move as a morale booster aligned with the Renewed Hope agenda. He announced plans to develop a College of Arms Squad Service in Nasarawa State, with the FCT obstacle course serving as a reference model.
Prof. Audi urged officers to shun indolence, uphold discipline, and prioritize the interest of the Service above personal considerations. He emphasized the importance of knowledge-driven training and community engagement in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.
The NSCDC has made significant strides in recent years, including the establishment of specialized units such as the Anti-vandal Unit, Critical Infrastructure and National Asset Protection unit, and Agro Rangers. The Corps has also intensified efforts to combat oil theft, illegal mining, and other security threats.
The transformation of the NSCDC is expected to enhance its effectiveness in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.
