Nurse asked takeaway workers if wrap contained nuts before she suffered a fatal allergic reaction, court hears

A nurse asked takeaway workers if a wrap contained nuts before she had a fatal allergic reaction, a court heard.

Hannah Walters tragically suffered anaphylaxis and died after eating at London’s Burger MaxX in 2023. Owner Shapor Iasq, 45, and manager Lutfullah Abdullah, 36, were both charged with her alleged manslaughter.

The nurse fell ill after tucking into a wrap she bought at the takeaway in Hillingdon, west London, while out for the night with her partner on December 7, 2023.

Ms Walters had asked staff if the food had any nuts in it, as she knew she was allergic, and was assured it did not, it is claimed.

She was taken to the hospital but could not be saved.

Wearing a long beige coat with a scarf, Abullah appeared at Isleworth Crown Court alongside Iasq, who was wearing a black suit.

Both men, of Uxbridge, west London, denied one count of manslaughter.

The pair denied five counts of breaching a health and safety duty, one count of failing to comply with an improvement notice relating to food information.

They also denied one count of failing to comply with a hygiene improvement notice, and three counts of failing to comply with a health and safety prohibition notice.

Burger MaxX is still trading in the same location, according to its page on Google.

Gordon Menzies, for Hillingdon Council, told the court that pathological and food safety experts will produce evidence reports.

Judge Martin Edmunds KC told both men: ‘Arrangements have been made for your trial to take place.

Judge Edmunds added: ‘It is very important that you keep in touch with your lawyers so they can contact you and do their job properly on your behalf.

‘If you do not attend the trial, you may miss out on giving evidence to the jury.

‘If you do not come to court when required, that is a separate offence which you might be punished for separately.’

Both men, of Uxbridge, west London, were released on unconditional bail ahead of their trial at the same court on September 7 this year.
