Oil Sector Saga: Emeka Agba Faults Dangote’s Use Of Farouk’s Children School Fees, Calls Probe Of Other Officials

Chief Emeka Agba, the founder and president of Chief Emeka Agba Foundation, has faulted Alhaji Aliko Dangote, the chairman of the Dangote Group, for using the school fees of the children of Mr. Ahmed Farouk, the immediate past Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRRA), in the current oil sector saga in Nigeria.

Speaking in an interview with Daily Independent, he said that the children are innocent and did participate in the oil sector, describing mention of their names by Dangote as “a blow below the belt”.

He argued that Dangote should have used other strategies to fight Farouk instead of using the names of his children.

The business man said that Dangote could have exposed how Farouk was in bed with foreign oil companies and used his position to undermine local production of petroleum products in the country.

Emeka Agba, who holds the title of Odagbulu Ihe Dagbulu Ihe Dagbulu Enyi 1 of Igboland, said the disclosure made by Dangote is symptomatic of the murky deals and corruption that run deep in the Nigerian oil sector where officials and foreign oil companies collude to fleece the country.

He alleged the foreign oil companies under-declared production volumes and paid Nigerian officials to keep quiet. According to him, Farouk is not alone, adding that the searchlight should focus on other officials in the sector.

However, the founder and president of Chief Emeka Agba Foundation accused Dangote of trying to create a monopoly in the Nigerian oil sector, an outcome, he said, will lead to increase in the prices of petroleum products in the country. He cited the cement industry in which he stated that the activities of the Dangote led to massive increases in the price of cement in Nigeria.

He challenged Dangote to disclose the names of people who invested in his refinery, adding that a former governor of the central disclosed that foreign exchange was sold to Dangote at discounted rate.
