ABUJA – The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Social Development Secretariat, Ms. Olubunmi Olowokere, has called for deeper synergy across government and non-governmental sectors to combat poverty in Nigeria effectively.
Speaking at the implementation phase of the Household Prosperity and Empowerment Programme (HPEP) a key initiative under the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA) Olowokere emphasized that reducing poverty requires collaborative action across all levels of society.
“In the fight against poverty, we must build greater synergy across all sectors government MDAs, NGOs, traditional institutions, religious leaders, private sector actors, and grassroots organizations,” she said.
Describing the programme’s theme, “More Beta Don Come,” as more than just a slogan, Olowokere said it reflects the federal government’s renewed commitment to restoring dignity and hope to millions of vulnerable Nigerians.
“It is a clear statement of transformation. Poverty, unemployment, and social exclusion are not just statistics they are lived realities for too many,” she added.
Also speaking at the event, the FCT Social Investment Programme Focal Person, Hajia Maijidda Adamu Kuku, described the HPEP as a people-centered initiative aimed at uplifting households, empowering communities, and driving sustainable development.
“The HPEP is not just another intervention. It is designed to strengthen economic resilience at the grassroots level, enhance livelihood opportunities, and ensure that no household is left behind in our journey toward inclusive prosperity,” she said.
She expressed appreciation to development partners, government agencies, civil society, and community leaders who continue to support the vision of household empowerment across the country.
In his remarks, the Project Manager of the National Cash Transfer Office, Mr. Atabo Philip, said the engagement was meant to ensure stakeholder alignment, deepen understanding of the programme, clarify the roles of policymakers, and foster meaningful feedback.
He stressed that such engagements are crucial to building collective ownership of the initiative and ensuring its long-term success.
The HPEP continues to be a cornerstone of Nigeria’s broader poverty reduction agenda, with a focus on reaching underserved communities through targeted and sustainable social investment.
