‘Opposition In Nigeria Is Acting Irresponsibly’ – Obasanjo’s Ex-aide, Osuntokun

Former Political Adviser to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, Akin Osuntokun, has stated that the opposition parties in Nigeria are unserious and acting irresponsibly.

Naija News reports that Osuntokun made the remark during an interview on Arise Television while reacting to the ordeal of former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai.

Recall that El-Rufai had written an official letter to the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, seeking clarification over reports that his office imported 10 kilograms of thallium sulphate, a highly toxic and strictly regulated substance, into Nigeria.

Reacting, Osuntokun described El-Rufai ’s statement as irresponsible and reckless.

The former presidential spokesman accused the former Governor of using the alleged importation of poisonous gas to divert Nigerians’ attention from the established corruption case against him.

Osuntokun further faulted the conduct of members of the opposition parties, noting that they are unserious.

He said, “Look at what El-Rufai said about the importation of a poisonous substance; that is most irresponsible and reckless.

“It is obvious that he was using it to distract attention from the well-established corruption charges against him. So the opposition itself has not been doing itself much good by the conduct of its own people; they are shooting themselves in the foot.

“The opposition is unserious, not ready for elections, and we are less than a year to the election. The opposition in Nigeria is acting irresponsibly.”
