In this recent press interview with our Senior Correspondent, Abbanobi -Eku Onyeka in his office in Abuja, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Chairmanship candidate in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Comrade Eze Onyebuchi Chukwu, among others says that the problems in Nigerian political elections is neither religion or tribalism, but inability to do things right.
Excerpts.
Qtn: To convince Nigerian in AMAC to support you, can you tell us the any public office you have ever held and excelled?
Ans: I am the National Youth Leader of APGA presently, I have also been the chairman, Forum of National Youth Leaders of all Political Parties in Nigeria. Since I became the national youth leader, I have also been a political leader of some groups. In 2019, I was the FCT Director of ATIKULATION, that is the biggest structure on which ticket Peter Obi ran in 2019. In 2023 also, I was the the Founder and Director General of I Stand for Obi Datti. That is a structure that was spread nationwide in the 36 states and the FCT with which we campaign for Peter Obi.
So I’ve been leading political groups and now the National Youth Leader and Chairman Forum of Youth Leaders at National level in the APGA?
What difference do you think you can make in AMAC?
Ans: Well after 2019 election, I registered an NGO. I called Society Welbeing Advocate of Nigeria, (SWAN). I’ve been using SWAN to do charity, to empower the youths, to train the youth on the skills of their choice for free of charge, and I’ve got over 300 youths benefiting from this empowerment.
So all my time, as a leader and also a youth leader, I’ve been advocating for good governance. I’ve been criticizing the people in power where they need criticism and commending them where they need commendation. You know, all this while, it has been about Nigeria, and that is why I keep supporting the best candidates. Now as a contestant, it is that drive, that hunger for good governance, that is leading me into contest. I am coming in to show a difference. You know, every season of time, a leader emerges that will prove to the people that leaders still exist, those who will make impact, who bring results, who are not there just to make money, but to make them. That is what I want to bring into leadership.
Qtn: Do you think that the APGA can compete favourably in AMAC, where the All Progressives Congress (APC) is in power?
Ans: Why not? APGA has been winning elections in the FCT. It once won election in Gwagwalada Area Council. And then, right now, people of Nigeria, let me just talk about AMAC. People are tired of the status quo. People are tired of APC, tired of PDP, the Labor Party they thought was going to be their hope. They are tired crashed their hope. So the one coming up and now they call the coalition has no hope in it, because court cases here and there, you know, fights here and there, still the gathering of the vultures coming in.
So there’s no hope for the people, they are earnestly searching, eagerly looking for leadership in a virgin political party or in the political party that can give them work, that can work for them. You see,Our problems aren’t religion or tribalism, but inability to do things right — APGA AMAC candidate

So there’s no hope for the people, they are earnestly searching, eagerly looking for leadership in a virgin political party or in the political party that can give them work, that can work for them. You see, APGA is the only political party that has the motto, Be Your Brothers and Sisters’ keepers. And if you watch the state being controlled by abba, abba is known for results.
APGA is known for being incorrupt. You can’t mention APGA, and then you mention corruption. For instance, Peter Obi that everybody is celebrating today is a product of APGA. APGA produced Peter Obi. Peter Obi only left APGA with the ideologies and the virtues of an APGA politician. And then today we are celebrating him. See what Governor Soludo is doing in Anambra State, the same spirit, they lead without borrowing. They will rather leave money in the coffers of the state instead of engaging and being involved in corruption. So APGA is the best alternative, as long as the election in AMAC is concerned.
APGA is the one telling you to be your brother’s keeper. And that is what we have lacked in the country. The leaders are not their brothers’ keepers of the masses. And then here we are with a party, preaching, show your brother, love, be your brother’s keeper. So that’s what we’re bringing to leaders.
Qtn: One funny thing about Nigerian politicians is that, some of them see politics, as do-or-die affairs. How am I that you are not one of them?
Ans: No, I cannot be. I’ve been a preacher of peace all my life. Society where we advocate of Nigeria is actually an organization meant for peace and then to reduce unemployment among the youths. Because, of course, I know that the issues of criminality, insecurity, and all of them, are rooted in joblessness. Once you reduce joblessness, you will reduce poverty, and once you’re reducing poverty, reducing criminality. So I’m a peacemaker. That is what many people call me.
Qtn: Tribalism plays a lot of roles in Nigerian politics, do you think that you have the support of the tribes in the AMAC?
Ans: Let me tell you, people are tired of the old method. You know, they use tribe and religion to divide us, but people are wiser. Now I always preach wherever I go, and I will tell them our problem is not tribe, our problem is not religion. Our problem is the inability of people of all tribes, all religions, to do things right. If the person in your tribe can do it right, everyone will benefit. If the one in my tribe can do it right, everyone benefits, but if they decide not to do it right, everyone will suffer it. For instance, Wike is in FCT right now, constructing roads here, and everyone has believed or agreed with me that he is constructing roads. He’s not an indigene of the FCT. But we had FCT ministers, who could not even show their presence.
Even they said they can’t count, not even one person that has benefited from other monsters. So it’s not about trying. It’s about the willingness to work, the willingness to do good work, to work as a leader, you know, to impact people, to make names and not to make money. So if we can, those of us who want the nation to work, can keep away from tribe and religion, just as the bad ones also keep away from tribe and religion when they want to share our common resources. If we can keep away from tribe and religion and focus on competence, those who are ready to work, those who are capable and willing to work, then things will be right. So in my messages across AMAC, I keep telling them that tribe and religion are not our problem, that Namu, Namu, for an Hausa man, is no longer working, our own have come and cannot do it. Sometimes those who are not ours are the ones that will come and work to impress the people.
Qtn: Any more advice to the residents and indigenes of AMAC?
Ans: I advise them to keep away from tribalism. This one is their own has cost them a lot. They need someone who is coming to work for humanity and who will not annihilate the cultural heritage. Even as a leader, they need someone who recognizes their own like the man who is my vice. Today I went to pick their youth president. The FCT Youth President is my vice. So because this is a man I’ve seen that has been singing songs, speaking out for peace.
He is a Gwandara, by tribe. Youth President of the whole FCT. So he is my vice. His name is Honorable Huseni Jibrin. He is a musician, and he has been singing about peace and unity in FCT. So this is the kind of person I brought as my vice. I want the indigenes and residents to keep away from the tribalism, to look at Wike as an example and see that it is not who is from your tribe that can work. Anyone can work. And I am here to work, not just to play politics.
Qtn: How can you make it without a presidential candidate
Ans: Of course, there’s no political party that has a presidential candidate, yet and when we get to 2027 we’ll present our candidates, just like other political parties.
Qtn: Have your party really adopted Tinubu as your presidential candidate?
Qtn: No, I don’t think so. Our national youth leader, who is the only governor we have for now, may have been a friend to President Tinubu, we are friends.
Qtn: What’s his name?
Ans: Governor Soludo. He may be his friend for years, so you don’t expect him to go to public and then start castigating his friend, because of politics. I am not also a preacher of that. So the person that will determine who we are following is our national chairman. You can never see him, or have never seen him in public.
