PCRC tasks media on fair reportage

The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has appealed to the media to ensure responsible, fair, and positive reporting to promote peace, development, and national unity during the forthcoming Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Alhaji Mogaji Olaniyi, the National Chairman of the PCRC, made the call during an interactive meeting on security and peaceful FCT Area Council elections, scheduled for Feb. 21.

“The PCRC will work with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Nigeria Police. The election is going to be free and fair. No form of thuggery will be tolerated; it will be a crime-free election,” Olaniyi said.

He noted that the meeting was intended to sensitize residents that the PCRC would be on the ground to support the Police Command in the FCT.

He warned that there would be no hiding place for criminals and advised individuals to desist from all forms of criminal activity.

“We will use our instrument of office to fish criminals out because we are the closest to the public. There is no hiding place for any criminal. We will expose them,” he added.

Also speaking, Dr. Rufus Ebegba, FCT PCRC Chairman, urged Nigerians—especially FCT residents—to support the Federal Government’s security architecture under President Bola Tinubu.

“Eligible voters in the FCT are encouraged to participate peacefully in the Feb. 21 elections, which will serve as a test run for INEC ahead of the 2027 general elections,” Ebegba said.

He called for public cooperation with security agencies through information sharing to help sustain peace within communities.

Ebegba further urged all political parties and candidates to conduct peaceful and responsible campaigns while respecting the rule of law.

He also described the President’s tax reforms and economic recovery agenda as necessary steps toward a stronger, more self-reliant Nigeria. (NAN)
