Despite the weekend expulsion of several Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, the faction has pressed forward with its activities, announcing a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Tuesday.
In addition to the emergency NEC gathering, the faction also revealed plans to convene a Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting, signalling that internal tensions within the opposition party are far from over.
The BoT meeting has been slated for the National Headquarters of the party in Wuse, zone 5 popularly referred to as Wadata Plaza.
The notice of the meeting was signed by Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who insists that he remains the National Secretary of the party.
Both meetings are scheduled to hold at the NEC Hall of the Wadata Plaza, Abuja and while the BoT meeting will begin at 11:00 a.m, the NEC meeting will follow at 2:00 p.m.
Anyanwu noted that “Attendance is very important as crucial matters will be discussed and addressed.”
The National Secretariat of the party has been under lock and key since last month when the Abuja High Court ruled against last Saturday National Convention of the party.
Security operatives locked the offices after the factional Acting National Chairman, Abdulrahman Muhammed, stormed the Wadata Plaza with his supporters and assumed office as the National chairman.
But despite the court order, the convention went ahead and one of its major highlights was the expulsion of Wike, Anyanwu, former National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade, former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, Imo PDP Chairman, Austin Nwachukwu, and others for alleged anti-party activities and plans to destroy the party.
