Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State has outrightly rejected the results of the Bagwai/Shanono and Ghari/Tsanyawa state constituencies’ re-run elections held on August 16, 2025, alleging rampant irregularities and violence that compromised the process.
The party claimed the elections were tainted by thuggery, with political operatives intimidating voters, rendering the exercise a mockery of democracy.
Speaking to journalists in Kano on Saturday, PDP Chairman Alhaji Yusuf Kibiya described the electoral process as “entirely lacking in democratic principles.”
He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a fair and equitable environment for all political parties, warning that the current situation severely undermines public trust in elections. “The process was a sham, devoid of any semblance of democratic integrity,” Kibiya stated.
Kibiya called on security agencies to safeguard voters, maintain peace, and curb acts of intimidation and violence during elections.
He also appealed to the Kano State Government and national leaders to refrain from provocative rhetoric and actions, advocating вместо этого for a transparent and peaceful electoral process.
Furthermore, he pressed relevant authorities to probe violations of electoral laws and impose strict sanctions on offenders to deter future misconduct.
In a related development, the Nigeria Police reported the arrest of 288 suspected thugs during the re-run elections in the Ghari/Tsanyawa and Bagwai/Shanono constituencies. Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, confirmed the arrests while addressing the media in Shanono Local Government Area, signaling a crackdown on election-related violence.
