PDP set to reclaim Cross Rivers in 2027

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State is undergoing a strategic overhaul to position itself for a triumphant return to power in the 2027 elections.

The state chairman of the PDP, Venatius Ikem, announced this initiative during the inauguration of a 20-member congress committee in Calabar on Friday.Ikem highlighted that the party has critically assessed its shortcomings from the 2023 general elections and is actively working to rectify them.

“We have taken cognizance of our mistakes in 2023 and are committed to avoiding those pitfalls in 2027,” he stated.

He also emphasized the party’s plan to capitalize on the missteps of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to secure a win.

The chairman noted that the PDP maintains a strong grip on the northern senatorial district and aims to capture an additional district to clinch victory.

“Our focus is clear: strengthen our position, leverage APC’s errors, and transform our party for success,” Ikem said.

“With control over the northern senatorial district, securing one more district will pave the way for our triumph.”

Despite national-level challenges, Ikem expressed confidence in the party’s resilience, describing its issues as “superficial” and temporary.

He underscored the PDP’s appeal to dedicated members, stating, “This is a party for those with the conviction and courage to serve.”

Ikem praised the newly formed congress committee, led by Prof Zana Akpagu, as a “galaxy of stars,” signaling the high caliber of leadership within the Cross River PDP.

In response, Akpagu affirmed the committee’s commitment, saying, “We accept this responsibility wholeheartedly and understand the critical importance of this task. We will not take it lightly.”
