PDP slams Wike, allies for “deepening illegality” with fictitious caretaker committee

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has pushed back hard against what it describes as a fresh wave of political “absurdity” allegedly engineered by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and his allies.

The party said the group’s announcement of a National Caretaker Committee is not only fraudulent but a deliberate attempt to mislead the public by falsely operating under the PDP’s name.

In a strongly worded statement on Monday, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobing, said the so-called committee — which it described as “Wike & Co. Caretaker Committee Limited” — was nothing more than a private political arrangement dressed up as a party structure.

Comrade Ememobing said the individuals involved “would have passed unnoticed, just like the drab audience of their sympathy party, if they had not attempted to falsely cloak it in the name of the Peoples Democratic Party… a party that had duly expelled them, with certificates as evidence.”

He stressed that every organ of the PDP remains intact and fully functional under the recognised leadership of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN.

According to him, these organs are run by “dignified individuals, who cannot be procured or commodified in the manner that has become the signature modus operandi of this group of former members.”

PDP officials also pointed to an ongoing court case filed on November 21, 2025, by Wike’s associates — Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman and Senator Sam Anyanwu — before Justice J.O. Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja. In the suit, the plaintiffs sought to invalidate the PDP national convention and its outcomes. Their bid for an interim injunction was rejected, with the court warning all parties to avoid actions that could undermine its final judgement.

Despite that clear caution, the party said Wike’s faction went ahead to announce the disputed caretaker committee, calling the move “a clear contempt of the court” that has also “fundamentally altered the status of the two plaintiffs in that suit.”

The PDP asserted that this latest episode is simply an extension of what it regards as a long-running scheme to destabilise the opposition and strengthen the ruling party’s agenda. “This latest drama represents nothing but a further deepening of the trenches of illegality they have been digging since 2023,” the statement said, adding that their actions have now become “a full-fledged tool in the ruling party’s playbook, weaponised by this Wike-led band of APC apologists.”

According to the party, Nigerians are already familiar with “the comical spectacle that this group has become,” insisting that each move only reinforces public perception of the faction as unserious and deliberately disruptive.

Reassuring its members and supporters, the PDP said it remains on course with its internal reforms. “We reassure our members and the nation that the PDP remains firmly on a path of rebirth, anchored on transparency, equity, honesty, and inclusiveness,” the statement concluded.
