Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, has declared that peace has returned to Rivers State following the lifting of the six-month emergency rule by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme on Thursday, Wike revealed that he spoke with Governor Siminalayi Fubara a day earlier and both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to stability.
“As I speak to you, as of yesterday, I spoke to the Governor (Fubara). I told him I was leaving that night to come back, and he told me he was leaving this morning. So, I can tell you that, by the grace of God, peace has returned,” Wike said.
The minister stressed that stakeholders in the oil-rich South-South state are now united in moving Rivers forward after months of political crisis that prompted Tinubu to suspend the governor, his deputy, and the House of Assembly in March.
Wike added that he has forgiven Fubara and sees no reason for further conflict. “I will not engage with a man I have not forgiven. Everything is over. We must move forward,” he said.
He also cautioned those he described as “agents of crisis” who are unhappy with the return of peace, insisting that President Tinubu’s intervention has restored order.
“Unfortunately, there are people who do not want peace. They twist the law and pontificate without offering solutions. But the President has done a great deal for us, and peace has been restored,” he said.
