The Parastatals Monitoring Office (PMO) team, led by the Special Adviser, Babajide Obanikoro, has paid a working visit to the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) as part of its yearly engagement with government agencies.
During the visit, the Managing Director of LAMATA, Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, provided an overview of the authority’s ongoing and planned projects, both in the rail and road subsectors of Lagos State’s transportation system.
She explained that the projects are guided by the state’s Strategic Transport Master Plan (STMP), noting that two of the six planned rail lines are already operational, while implementation plans are underway for two others—the Green and Purple Lines.
LAMATA on it X handle, @Lamataonline, said on road-based transport, Akinajo highlighted the three Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridors currently in service, the zonal First and Last Mile (FLM) Bus Scheme, and the Quality Bus Corridors, whose infrastructure will be completed next year.
The Managing Director also disclosed LAMATA’s ongoing transition towards becoming a multifuel transport regulatory agency. Presently, LAMATA regulates buses powered by petrol, CNG, and diesel, with a few electric vehicles already in service, and plans to introduce bio-gas-powered buses in the near future.
Commending the authority, Obanikoro praised LAMATA for its transparency, efficiency, and commitment to project delivery.
He encouraged the agency to sustain its momentum in transforming public transportation in Lagos State.
