Police Arrest Sowore After Meeting Nnamdi Kanu Inside Abuja Court [Video]

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has been arrested by police at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The arrest happened on Thursday morning shortly after he attended court proceedings in the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Before his arrest, Sowore posted a video from the Federal High Court, saying he had met Kanu’s lead lawyer, Kanu Agabi (SAN).

He claimed Agabi told him the legal team planned to withdraw from the case, leaving Nnamdi Kanu without representation.

“ He was sure that it was completely political, ” Omoyele Sowore wrote shortly before being arrested.

As he left the court, police reportedly stopped him and said he needed to go with them to the station.

In the video, police officers said he was not being arrested but revealed that the Commissioner of Police had instructed them to bring him to the office.

Sowore questioned why no official invitation had been issued and requested that his lawyer accompany him.

He told the officers: “ You said the Commissioner of Police said you should arrest me by force? You didn’t bring any letter of invitation. You have to take me with my lawyer.

“You know we have to stand for you when they oppress you, but since you are standing for oppression, no problem .”

The police allowed him to leave the court with his lawyer and head to the Commissioner’s office.

A close associate of Sowore, speaking to Daily Trust on condition of anonymity, said the police had already issued an invitation for him through the FCT Commissioner of Police.

The associate expressed surprise at the urgency of his arrest, saying Sowore had planned to comply with the invitation.

“ He was going to honour their invitation. It was in the itinerary. I wonder why they were so much in a hurry ,” the associate said.
