Police investigate fatal crash linked to touts, claiming 4 lives in Abuja

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has initiated a detailed investigation into a deadly accident allegedly triggered by touts, which resulted in four fatalities in Abuja on Wednesday.

Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement released on Thursday in Abuja.

According to Adeh, the incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. along Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway near Mabushi Underbridge.

She explained, “Preliminary findings show that a grey Toyota Highlander, registration number ABJ 206 EC, driven by Emeka Ehekweme with his wife onboard, was intercepted by three unidentified suspects near Berger Junction, Utako.”

The suspects forcibly entered the vehicle, leading to a struggle for control of the steering wheel. “

This caused the vehicle to veer out of control, collide with a parked Mazda, and somersault into a bridge pillar,” Adeh added.

Tragically, Emeka Ehekweme, his wife, and two of the assailants were pronounced dead on arrival at the National Hospital.

The third suspect is currently under medical care. The driver of the Mazda, Suleman Mohammed, escaped with non-life-threatening injuries.

Adeh assured the public of the command’s commitment to uncovering the full details of the incident, stating, “The FCT Police Command extends its condolences to the families of the deceased and pledges a thorough investigation to establish the facts surrounding this tragedy.”

She added, “Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.”
