Police, Military Clear Zamfara Road Of IED Threats After Deadly Blast

Security operatives have cleared and reopened the Gusau–Magami–Dansadau Road for public use following a joint Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) sweep operation carried out by the Police and Military teams in Zamfara State.

The operation was launched in response to the December 27, 2025 explosion caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by suspected terrorists along the route, which claimed eight lives and destroyed several properties.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Public Relations Officer of the Zamfara State Police Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the successful completion of the clearance operation, assuring residents that the highway has been declared safe for both vehicular and pedestrian movement.

“The Gusau–Magami–Dansadau Road has now been cleared and declared safe for normal vehicular and human movement,” Abubakar stated.

He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and security-conscious, advising them to promptly report any suspicious objects or activities to the nearest security agency for immediate action.

“The Command encourages people in the state to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious objects or activities to the nearest security agency for appropriate action,” the statement added.

The police spokesperson reiterated the commitment of the Zamfara State Command and collaborating military units to ensure the safety of residents and restore confidence in the use of major routes previously threatened by terrorist activities.
