Political parties, Labour should lead electoral reforms in Nigeria – Amadi

The Director of Abuja school of social and political
thought, Sam Amadi, has called on opposition political parties and the Labour
unions to take the lead in electoral reforms in Nigeria

Amadi made this call on Wednesday, when he appeared as a
guest on Arise Television.

He charged the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade
Union Congress, TUC, to take the reforms up with their congresses and make it a
Labour demand from the federal government.

“We think that with NLC and TUC being part of this process,
it will produce results. I always say this. The mistake in the past is that we
have made electoral reform an NGO-based activity. The guys who have skill in
the game, the political parties should lead electoral reform.

“Open some parties and as we have, fund them. Secondly, we
said Labour.

“No matter what you talk about, Labour is the only civic
organization that has the capacity to impose costs.

“So we say Labour take this up in your congress, in the
highest decision making body, make these simple steps,” he said.
