Presidency Shares Details Of How Kidnapped Niger Schoolchildren Were Rescued

The presidency on Sunday disclosed that the remaining 130 schoolchildren previously kidnapped by bandits in Niger State were rescued following a military-intelligence-driven operation.

The disclosure was made by Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga .

He confirmed that the students from St Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Niger State, were released on Sunday, November 21, and are expected to arrive in Minna on Monday and rejoin their parents.

He wrote on 𝕏, “The remaining 130 schoolchildren abducted by terrorists at St Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Niger State, on November 21, have now been released. They are expected to arrive in Minna on Monday and rejoin their parents for the Christmas celebration.

“One hundred were released earlier by the terrorists, taking the total of freed students to 230.

“The freedom of the schoolchildren followed a military-intelligence driven operation.”

Naija News recalls that the presidency had earlier on Sunday, confirmed that no student of St. Mary’s Catholic Private Primary and Secondary School in Papiri community, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State remains in the captivity of bandits.

According to the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Communication, Sunday Dare, the remaining 130 pupils from the school have been released.

Dare, in a post via his 𝕏 account on Sunday, wrote, “Another 130 Abducted Niger State Pupils Released, None Left In Captivity.”

Naija News reports that the post was accompanied by a photo of smiling children and a woman.
