Residents Flee Kwara Community After  Fresh Deadly Attack

Residents of Oke-Ode in Ifelodun Local Government Area, Kwara State, are fleeing their homes following deadly bandit attacks that killed 13 people, kidnapped five, and injured many on Sunday, September 28, 2025. 

Displaced villagers, arriving in Ilorin with household belongings, are seeking refuge with relatives and friends, vowing not to return until safety is restored.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara described the violence as “killings too many,” pressing Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to address the escalating insecurity. 

During a visit to Oke-Ode, the governor called the attack tragic and promised enhanced security measures.Alhaji Ganiyu O. A. Bello, National President of the Oke-Ode Community Development Association, termed the situation “pathetic and devastating,” noting that 90 percent of residents have fled. 

He urged the government to deploy security agents, arm local hunters and vigilantes, and appoint a new Elesha of Oke-Ode. Bello also called for an investigation into claims that the vigilante team leader, Mr. Victor, disarmed local security volunteers a day before the attack, demanding sanctions if true. 

Additionally, he requested the rehabilitation of the Igbaja–Oke-Ode–Shagbe Road to improve security and access.

Governor AbdulRazaq commended security agencies, forest guards, and vigilantes for repelling the attackers and assured residents that their concerns would be addressed. 

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to bolstering security statewide and prayed for the souls of the deceased.
