Ribadu directs El-Rufai to forward evidence on alleged thallium sulphate procurement to DSS

The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) has called on former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to submit any evidence he may have regarding the alleged procurement of thallium sulphate to the Department of State Services (DSS) for investigation.

Sources familiar with the development said the request followed a letter dated January 30, 2026, in which el-Rufai reportedly informed the National Security Adviser that the highly toxic substance was sourced from a supplier in Poland.

Thallium sulphate is a colourless, odourless and extremely poisonous compound capable of causing severe harm or death in small quantities.

In its response, ONSA, headed by Nuhu Ribadu, denied the allegation and advised the former governor to provide any proof in his possession to the DSS to enable security agencies carry out a comprehensive probe.

The reply, dated February 13, 2026, was signed by Brigadier-General O.M. Adesuyi on behalf of the National Security Adviser.

Attempts to deliver the response to el-Rufai’s Abuja residence initially met a setback. Security personnel on duty reportedly declined to accept the letter, informing the dispatch officer that the head of security was not available and that they were unsure when the former governor would return.

However, the letter was eventually delivered on Sunday, with the head of security signing to acknowledge receipt on behalf of el-Rufai.
