The Rivers State House of Assembly has waived the earlier requirement for commissioner nominees to submit their curriculum vitae before appearing for screening and has invited all nominees to attend the exercise scheduled for Monday.
In a statement signed by the Clerk of the House, Emeka Amadi, the nominees are expected to appear before the Assembly at the Rivers State House of Assembly Chamber, Assembly Quarters, Port Harcourt, on Monday, March 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
The decision followed an earlier delay in the screening process after some of the nominees failed to submit their CVs and other credentials as requested by the Assembly.
Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule, had last Friday explained that the screening could not proceed because the required documents had not been fully submitted by the nominees.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara had forwarded nine names to the Assembly last Monday for screening and confirmation as commissioners and members of the State Executive Council.
The development comes amid a cooling of political tensions in the state following the intervention of President Bola Tinubu after the Assembly initiated impeachment proceedings against the governor and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Nma Odu.
The process was however suspended after president Tinubu stepped in and brokered a truce, halting the crisis.
