August 31, (THEWILL) — The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission has declared the results of Saturday’s local government elections conducted across the 23 councils of the state.
Announcing the outcome at the Commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt on Sunday, RSIEC Chairman, Michael Odey, said the All Progressives Congress secured 20 chairmanship seats, while the Peoples Democratic Party retained three local governments.
According to the official results, APC recorded victories in Abua/Odual, Ahoada East, Ahoada West, Akuku Toru, Andoni, Asari Toru, Bonny, Degema, Eleme, Emohua, Etche, Gokana, Ikwerre, Khana, Ogu/Bolo, Okrika, Omuma, Opobo/Nkoro, Oyigbo, and Tai.
PDP, however, retained control of Obio/Akpor, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, and Port Harcourt councils.
The polls saw APC candidates win with wide margins in most areas, with Khana LGA recording one of the highest tallies at over 156,000 votes. In Port Harcourt, PDP’s Allwell Ihunda secured more than 235,000 votes to retain his chairmanship seat.
The announcement officially confirms APC’s dominance in the state’s latest grassroots polls, while PDP maintained a foothold in its traditional strongholds.
