While Luton were shell-shocked by the injury blow, they managed to rally and took the lead against the Sky Blues before being pegged back and taking the game to penalties.

With Edwards’ side winning 6-5 in sudden death, Luton’s fans and players were delirious with joy, the 40-year-old wasn’t able to fully embrace the occasion.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Edwards said: “It feels incredible, but I’ll be honest, the only thing I’m thinking about right now is Tom Lockyer.

“He’s been immense for us this season – health is the most important thing, family is the most important thing and more important than football and this.

“All of those things are great, but I don’t care right now. Until I know he’s alright, that’s where my head is at the moment.”

After expressing his concern, Edwards was shown the social media post sent by Lockyer’s father, showing the skipper celebrating their promotion to the Premier League.

Catching the Luton boss off guard, Edwards struggled to hold back the tears, saying: “Don’t, you’ll make me go!

“I can’t speak highly enough of him and I’m just really pleased he’s okay. That’s it, sorry.”
