Russia on Thursday chastised senior bureaucrats of the United States government for bragging about the elimination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and other members of the country’s leadership.
In an interview with France Télévisions, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said the manner in which the officials “speak with bravado and pride about the cold-blooded killing” of Iran’s leaders implies “cynical behavior.”
Lavrov also criticized Washington’s handling of certain disputes, arguing that the situation there gets worse “each time the United States and its allies intervene.
“Iraq, Syria, and Libya have been destroyed. The same is happening with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he observed, recalling the ongoing war started at the height of negotiations.
Meanwhile, Tehran has publicly acknowledged the support for Iran by President Vladimir Putin and Russia since the start of the war with America and Israel.
“President Putin’s messages and the support of the Russian people inspire us in this war,” President Masoud Pezeshkian wrote on X on Thursday.
Pezeshkian added that the resistance and courage of the Iranian people promise new bonds that will ensure the security of East Asia by the countries of the region.
The commendation followed reports of Tehran receiving intelligence from Moscow about the exact positions of U.S. military bases and interests across the Middle East.
Lavrov, however, stressed that although Russia has supplied certain types of military equipment to Iran, “we cannot agree with accusations that we are providing Iran with intelligence.”
The diplomat said the location of U.S. bases is not secret. “Everyone in the region knows their coordinates. This information is readily available,” he stated. “I am not surprised to see Iran target them.”
On Thursday, Turkish President Recep Erdogan knocked Israel again, saying Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government is not only targeting Iran, but “implementing its plans to occupy Lebanon step by step.”
