At the mosques, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat who represented Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu described Tinubu, as a man that is bold, determined and who understands what it means for a nation to be developed.
He said he is one that perseveres a lot and who does not run away from challenges.
He said that the prayers were organized to thank God on his behalf, for his life and for the success in the election.
“I am sure he is very grateful to God. He is thankful for what Allah has done and our prayer is for Allah to be with him to guide him so that he can achieve those things that he desires for this country.
“He has a lot of plans, we just pray that all those plans will materialize and its impact on the people will be positive.
Speaking further he said the country is going through a tough time right now, and that there are all sorts of challenges.
“I remember what President Obama said, he said it will be tougher before it gets better, so one of the things he has said is let us remove subsidy and that will impact people, it will hit their pocket but ultimately we have to look at end gain in terms of subsiding those fuels, or using those money to build our future.
“A lot of communication has to happen, but I know it’s tough and when he is determined, he is able to achieve what he wants. So my advice for him is to continue on those parts and on those things that will affect Nigerians positively.
“I just pray he will be able to do all those things he has in his mind to achieve,” he said.
At the Chapel of Christ the Light, Sanwo-Olu who was represented by Tayo Ayinde, his Chief of Staff specifically asked for God’s wisdom, guidance and direction for Tinubu as he prepares to take the reins of leadership in Nigeria.
While congratulating Tinubu on behalf of his family, government and the people of Lagos State, Sanwo-Olu rejoiced “with our leader as he celebrates his new age, and wished him many more years in good health, happiness and above all, God’s mercies.”
The governor described “Tinubu is a pride to us in Lagos and a priceless global icon; an unrelenting fighter for democracy, an inextinguishable guiding light to the nation and an inspiration to me, as well as the progressives family.”
He also prayed that Almighty God will in this Lenten season, strengthen Tinubu, “grant him good health, wisdom, inspiration and all that he will require to accomplish all the laudable plans, programmes and policies that will uplift our dear country and indeed all Nigerians to greatness.”
He commended the All Progressives Congress (APC) party, all ministers and religious leaders for their ceaseless prayers for the peaceful conduct of the just-concluded general elections, both at the national and state levels.
Also, Prelate Emeritus Methodist Church, His Eminence, Sunday Ola Makinde, while ministering at the occasion, said that what Tinubu needs from Nigerians now are ardent prayers, undiluted loyalty and support of the citizens.
Makinde noted that Tinubu needs Divine wisdom, robust good health and victory over his enemies, adding: “We must pray for him to finish his terms successively.”
While noting that Tinubu emerged the “President-elect today because of his antecedents in his private and public life,” the cleric said that “Asiwaju’s election is a victory for purpose, as he was elected to rebuild Nigeria as he rebuilt Lagos State.”
The Prelate noted that the vision Asiwaju left in Lagos is an achievement, adding that “God has chosen Tinubu to elevate Nigeria to an enviable position and to reestablish the country.”
While urging Tinubu to put God first in his administration, Makinde said: “Let him choose his ministers, officers under the Divine prayers and control. Let him consult God before consulting man.
“He should choose godly, incorruptible men, irrespective of tribe, party, or religion. He should make use of the best brains and professionals, even in the opposition, to restore what the locusts have eaten.”
The cleric, who charged the President-elect on unity, religious and tribal tolerance among citizens, added: “Let him choose the best hands to work with. Nigeria today needs religious unity, harmony, tolerance and let him work on them. He has to work hard on ethnic and tribal unity. Many people are dying because of the communal crisis.”
Makinde also urged Tinubu to provide social amenities such as water, light, educational and medical rehabilitation, agricultural development and curb brain drain among Nigerian professionals.
He commended Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his great work, which earned him re-election, even as he described Sanwo-Olu as a listening governor.
He called for total deregulation of fuel, constitutional review, and complete political restructuring.
Sheik Abdur Rahman Ahmad, National Missioner of the Ansar- ud- deen Society of Nigeria, while speaking said Lagos is home to everybody, that it is a mini Nigeria.
He, therefore, urged the federal government to give Lagos a concession.
“We thank God for life and for making us see another Ramadan. Speaking on the last general elections, he noted that although it was tough because of the tribal and religious animosity, we voted for track record, competence, knowledge and wisdom.
It wasn’t all about religion but we wanted continuity.
“The challenges of the country are many but let’s continue to pray for our leaders to succeed. No leader wants to fail.
“Election is over now, therefore, let us all come together and allow peace to reign. Uphold our moral values, abide by all rules and regulations of the land and be our brothers’ keeper.
Describing Tinubu, he said he is a compassionate man who cares about the growth of everyone that comes across him.
