Saraki optimistic Abuja, Lagos to Ilorin airfares will drop after call with airline boss

The former Nigerian Senate President and Governor of Kwara State, Bukola Saraki, has revealed details of his conversation with the Chief Executive Officer of Overland Airways, Captain Edward Boyo.

In a statement on X on Monday, Saraki said he appealed to the airline boss over the rising cost of airfares on the Lagos–Ilorin and Abuja–Ilorin routes, which have become unaffordable for many Nigerians.

According to him, the airline CEO promised to review the airfare pricing on the routes in the coming weeks.

“I just got off the phone with Captain Boyo, the CEO of Overland Airways, to discuss how the current fares on the Lagos–Ilorin and Abuja–Ilorin routes are becoming unaffordable for our people in this current economy.

“I reminded him of our long-standing relationship, his relationship with Kwara State and Kwarans and how we worked together to pioneer and develop these routes when I served as governor.

“I am glad that he listened to my appeal and has promised to look into the pricing in the coming week. I am hopeful for a positive response,” he wrote.

This comes as Nigerians continue to lament the high cost of airfares on the Lagos–Ilorin, Abuja–Ilorin, and other routes nationwide.
