The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), in collaboration with the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN), NGX Regulation Limited (NGX RegCo), and EY, will host a two-day technical training programme on September 10-11, 2025, at the SEC’s Lagos Zonal Office.
According to a statement from SEC, the initiative aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to implement high-quality sustainability disclosures under the ISSB Standards, specifically IFRS S1 and IFRS S2.
The learner-centric programme is designed to enhance participants’ understanding of the ISSB Standards through a combination of presentations, Q&A sessions, interactive exercises, and networking opportunities.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided during the in-person event, which will be led by ISSB members Dr. Ndidi Nnoli Edozien and Dr. Richard Barker, alongside Neil Stewart, Director of Corporate Outreach at the IFRS Foundation.
Targeted at representatives from listed and private companies, Public Interest Entities (PIEs), accounting professionals, and other stakeholders, the training is tailored for individuals with sustainability reporting responsibilities, such as Chief Sustainability Officers, Risk and Investor Relations Officers, ESG controllers, and external reporting managers. To ensure focused engagement, registration prioritizes two representatives per company, with additional registrants placed on a waiting list.
The training underscores Nigeria’s commitment to adopting global sustainability reporting standards, fostering transparency, and aligning with international best practices in corporate governance and financial reporting.
