Senator Bassey Otu Wins Cross River Governorship Election

March 20, (THEWILL) – The All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate in Cross River State, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, has emerged as the state’s governor-elect.

Senator Otu emerged as governor after defeating ten other candidates.

Professor Teddy Charles Adias, the Returning Officer for the gubernatorial elections, declared the results at the Mike Igini Conference Hall, INEC office in Calabar.

According to him, “Otu Bassey Edet of the APC, having satisfied the provisions of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected”, he said.

Giving details about the victory, Professor Adias said Prince Otu polled 258,619 votes to defeat his closest rival, Professor Sandy Onor, of the PDP, who polled 179,636 votes.

He added that 1,766,466 voters were registered for the elections, while the accredited voters were 466,294.

He said that the valid votes were 451,933, the votes cast were 460,856, and the rejected votes were 8,923.

He said the difference between the first and second runner-ups is 78,983 votes and this is higher than the number of voters in places where elections were cancelled.

He further explained that 44,486 voters collected PVCs in areas where elections were cancelled and this does not affect the outcome of the elections.
