Seven storey building collapses, construction workers trapped

An unidentified number of construction workers have been trapped under the rubble of a seven-storey building that collapsed at First Avenue, Banana Island, Ikoyi area of Lagos.

Some of the workers jumped from the top floors, just before the building collapsed. Some kids that walked around the site narrowly escaped.

The building was unapproved and that the collapse occurred when casting was being done.

Mukaila Sanusi, Deputy Director, Public Affairs, Lagos State government, comfier medical the incident and said few, who sustained injuries are being treated.

He further assured the public that there was no fatality.

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Engr. Tayo Bamgbose-Martins, came immediately to the site to assess the situation and flag-off investigation.

Members of the public are hereby admonished to remain calm as the situation is totally under control.

Meanwhile, Journalists have been denied access to the collapsed building site in Lagos.

They’ve been told to wait outside, probably for safety reasons but people are getting suspicious about the access denial.

They are of the opinion that, certain truth in regards to the reason or cause of the collapse is about to be hidden, and that officials don’t want people to know what exactly happened.
