The Executive Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma has described skills acquisition as the guiding force for economic enhancement and national development.
The Governor said this while speaking at the Swearing-In ceremony /official commencement of the 2025 Batch B Stream I Orientation course at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp, Eziama Obaire, Nkwerre LGA.
He noted that Corps Members must improve on their innate skills, especially under the Skills Acquisition programme as instituted by the Scheme.
Governor Uzodinma pledged that his administration would support the skills initiative to enable the Corps Members to record greater achievements than their predecessors in the development of Imo State.
His Excellency, represented by Honourable Dr. Mandela Ukaegbu, the Chairman of the State NYSC Governing Board and Commissioner for Youth Development and Talent Hunt, hinted that the State Government would, in no small measure, ensure that adequate steps are taken to prioritise the welfare of Corps Members deployed to the State.
The Commissioner used the opportunity to commend the efforts of Chief Emeka Obiefule, an indigene of the host community, Ezaima Obaire, who facilitated the merging of the two multipurpose halls in the camp. He stressed the government’s pledge and commitment to the holistic renovation of the orientation camp.
The Governor urged Corps Members to uphold the core values of the Scheme, which include: Selfless service, Patriotism, Integrity, Efficiency, Commitment and Team work throughout their service year.
He also encouraged them to utilise the opportunities designed in the course content to sharpen their physical fitness and mental alertness.
The Chief Judge of Imo State, represented by Hon. Justice Obinna Nwachukwu administered the Oath of Allegiance on the Corps Members.
Earlier in his introductory address, the NYSC Imo State Coordinator, Mr Evans Okwor, appreciated the State Government, the good-spirited individuals and stakeholders who yielded to the call for holistic renovation of the existing facilities in the Camp. He further solicited more support for the Scheme.
He equally informed the Special Guest that the Corps Members have distinguished themselves through the display of a high level of discipline and courage, which are essential qualities for a fruitful service year and expression of their readiness to contribute positively to the collective aspiration for a united and resourceful Nigeria.
