Smids Animation Studios Celebrates 15 Years Of Creativity, African Storytelling With SMASH 2025

Lagos, Nigeria – October 2025- Smids Animation Studios, a multi-award-winning African creative powerhouse specializing in 2D and 3D animation, is set to mark its 15th anniversary with a landmark celebration — SMASH (Smids Animation Showcase) on November 2, 2025, at Alliance Française, Lagos.

Founded in 2010, Smids Animation Studios has become a trailblazer in Kids & Family entertainment, blending African culture, cutting-edge technology, and timeless storytelling to create content that resonates across generations and borders.

The anniversary showcase will feature:
a special screening of HADU, Smids’ award-winning short film, which has received eight Best Animation Awards across prestigious festivals, including LIFANIMA, AFRIFF, FESPACO, and the Lagos International Film Festival.
The official launch of Keko Africa, Smids’ new children’s brand celebrating African heritage through fun, educational storytelling.
Highlights from other acclaimed works such as Kainji, and community initiatives like Toontopia and She Animates Africa.

According to Dami Solesi, Founder and Creative Director of Smids Animation Studios, “This milestone is not just a celebration of our journey, but of African creativity, resilience, and storytelling. SMASH is our way of saying thank you — to everyone who has believed in the power of African animation.”

Over the past 15 years, Smids has grown from a small Lagos-based studio into a globally recognized voice for African animation — earning international recognition at Annecy, participating on the International Emmy Awards Jury, and showcasing its work at film festivals across Africa, Europe, and North America.
