August 07, (THEWILL) — The Sokoto State Government has restated its commitment to ensuring stable electricity across the state as part of efforts to drive economic growth and improve the quality of life for residents.
The State Commissioner for Energy and Petroleum Resources, Hon. Sanusi Danfulani, gave the assurance during an inspection of the newly completed electricity restoration project in Durbawa community, Kware Local Government Area. The community had been without power for nearly a year.
Danfulani said the project was executed to restore electricity, boost local economic activities, and enhance the social well-being of residents.
He disclosed that Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration has also taken steps to revive the State Independent Power Plant as part of a broader strategy to improve electricity access.
According to the Commissioner, the project is currently 80 per cent completed and is expected to play a key role in supporting industrial and commercial growth.
Contrary to speculations, Danfulani clarified that the Independent Power Plant is solely funded by the state government, with no partnership from the Federal Government.
Earlier, the commissioner appeared before the Sokoto State House of Assembly following an invitation from the House Committee on Power.
He explained that his initial absence during the committee’s visit to the ministry was due to his attendance at a State Executive Council meeting with the governor.
He said the issue has been resolved, and both the Speaker and committee members have accepted his explanation.
Danfulani pledged continued collaboration with the legislative arm to ensure progress in the state’s energy sector and overall development.
