Ten people died in a freak accident on Friday when a truck and an Interstate Bus Train collided in Mandela View, Free State.
The department of transport said 41 people were involved in the crash, with six passengers suffering severe to critical injuries. They were rushed to Pelonomi Trauma Unit where they are receiving medical care.
“Seven others sustained moderate injuries and were taken to Botshabelo Hospital and Busamed. A further 24 people with minor injuries were transported to Botshabelo Hospital, while one person opted not to go to hospital,” said national spokesperson Collen Msibi in a statement.
CAUSE UNDER INVESTIGATION
Msibi said transport minister and deputy minister Barbara Creecy and Mkhuleko Hlengwa instructed the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) to investigate the cause of the crash.
They are expected to hand in a preliminary report within 48 hours.
