South-Africa: Coastal temperatures remain moderate in KwaZulu-Natal

KwaZulu-Natal will enjoy relatively mild weather compared to the interior, with Durban expected to peak at 24°C.

According to forecaster Mpho Rasimphi, the coastal areas will remain warm but manageable. “Durban will see highs of 24°C, while Port St Johns will record 25°C,” Rasimphi said.

These conditions bring some relief compared to the inland, where temperatures will climb above 30°C.

Interior Heat and Fire Danger

Inland areas of KwaZulu-Natal will not be spared the heatwave gripping much of the country. Temperatures are expected to peak around 29°C to 32°C in towns such as Pietermaritzburg and Ladysmith.

Rasimphi warned that “northern parts of KwaZulu-Natal face high fire danger conditions, with runaway fires possible if strong winds continue.”

Farmers and rural communities have been urged to remain vigilant, as the risk of veld fires is particularly high during hot and dry spells.

Weather Patterns

Damaging interior winds have been forecast in parts of the Northern Cape, Northwest, and Free State. Meanwhile, Mpumalanga and Limpopo will remain partly cloudy with isolated heat pockets.

Despite these warnings, KwaZulu-Natal’s coastal belt offers more moderate conditions. However, Rasimphi stressed that “fire danger is not confined to the interior; dry grassland and wind can carry fires across unexpected areas.”

With varying conditions across the province, residents are reminded to take precautions, particularly when handling flammable materials.
