South-Africa: Snl24.com | Kaizer Jr Redefines ‘Experience’ Amid Zwane, Sheppard Criticism

Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr has reacted to suggestions that head coach Arthur Zwane and his assistant Dillon Sheppard lack experience and need an experienced coach alongside them.

Zwane is in his first season as a head coach not only at Chiefs but in his coaching career at the highest level while his assistant coach Sheppard, has only started out his coaching journey a couple of years ago.

Chiefs are currently still in the running for a continental spot, lying fourth in the DStv Premiership standings and have qualified for the Nedbank Cup semi-finals.

Motaung Jr dismissed the school of thought that the Amakhosi bench needs experience and reiterated his support for Zwane.

“How many coaches has the club had in how many years? Experienced coaches, people who have won trophies,” Motaung Jr said on Radio 2000’s Game On.

“Coach Arthur Zwane has not even been at the helm right now as the head coach for more than eight months, so I think at this moment in time, every season the club sits down, Dr. Motaung (chairman) guides the way forward.

“From our side we’re giving the coach full support in helping him achieve the goals he has set for himself,” he said.

Motaung Jr continued to discourage ideas that the team needs an experienced coach and pointed out that experienced coaches, who have won leagues in the past came to the club and won nothing in the past seven years.

“We’ve had coaches who’ve won leagues for three years in a row (Gavin Hunt) you know come to us in the last seven years and not winning anything,” he went on.
