Sowore faults Soludo over prolonged detention of Anambra native doctor

Human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has raised alarm over what he described as the unlawful and prolonged detention of a popular Anambra native doctor, Chidozie Nwangwu, widely known as Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki.

Nwangwu, a renowned native doctor hails from Oba in Idemili South Local Government Area.

In a post shared on his X handle on Saturday, Sowore said Nwangwu has been held by the Anambra State Government since early February 2025, alongside two other traditional practitioners.

He questioned why the state was keeping them in custody without transparency.

Sowore wrote: “Is it a crime to practice traditional religion? Or is there anything we don’t know?”

He accused Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of applying double standards, alleging that the governor openly attends Christian crusades where “fake miracles” are performed, yet allows the continued detention of men whose only known identity is their work as traditionalists.

According to Sowore, “Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo @CCSoludo, who has openly attended crusades of evangelical Christians where fake miracles were performed, must end the persecution of these men NOW!”

He called on the Anambra State Government to immediately release the detainees or make public any legitimate charges against them, insisting that freedom of religion—traditional or otherwise—remains a constitutional right.
